Friedman’s Ltd was established in 1962 as a wholesale trader of general household fabrics. Its sister company, Bacher Fabrics, which operated a retail operation in Manchester, eventually became the larger concern of the two companies and Friedman’s stopped its operations as a trading company.

When the third generation of family came to the helm of Bacher Fabrics in 1989, David Kaitiff, the newest director of the company aged just 21, saw opportunities in re-starting the wholesale business concentrating on stretch fabrics. He set about revolutionising the stretch fabric business within the UK. CEPS invested in Friedman’s Ltd in 2005 and today Friedman’s is one of Europe’s premiere fabric wholesalers and specialists in stretch fabrics.

Why Friedman's Ltd chose to partner with CEPS

When David Kaitiff re-entered the business as Managing Director, CEPS supported both his ideas for expansion and also his long-term plans for the business.

The benefits of being part of the group

Being part of the group has given the management of Friedman’s Ltd the confidence to make larger decisions and has encouraged them to be dynamic and forward thinking. CEPS has actively encouraged them to explore expansion avenues which may have otherwise remained closed under private ownership.

The business would not be where it is today if it hadn’t been sold to CEPS
